Where to Stay at Chopok South: Bystrá, Tále, Srdiečko or Mýto?

Four places below Chopok South

Anyone looking for accommodation for skiing on the south side of Chopok usually chooses from four places. All lie along one road, which climbs from Mýto pod Ďumbierom through Bystrá and Tále up the Bystrá valley to Krupová and Srdiečko:

• Krupová and Srdiečko - right by the gondolas up Chopok,
• Tále - a holiday area with a small ski resort and a golf course,
• Bystrá - a village in the middle of the valley, with a cave and wellness,
• Mýto pod Ďumbierom - a village by the Mýto Ski & Bike resort, closest to Brezno and Čertovica.

The deciding factors are mainly how much you want to travel in the morning, what you will do on days without skis, and whether you are travelling alone, as a couple or with children. The differences in distance to the gondola are small, though: from Bystrá it is a few minutes by car to Krupová.

Krupová and Srdiečko: by the gondola

Krupová lies at 1,084 m, and the main way up Chopok starts here: two 15-seat cabins via Kosodrevina to the Rotunda at 2,004 m. A little higher up, at Srdiečko (1,213 m), a chairlift leads up to Kosodrevina. From Srdiečko to Krupová runs the blue piste 36a Hotelová, which the resort built for less able skiers and families.

The advantage is clear: in the morning you do not have to deal with the journey or with parking at the gondola, which cost €10 a day in winter 2025/26. Right by the gondolas, though, there are only a few mountain hotels and chalets. After skiing there is the Après-ski bar Krupová; the Kosodrevina and Rotunda restaurants are up on the slope and work during the day. For shopping, the cave or the smaller resorts you have to drive down the valley.

The road is a mountain road and continues to Srdiečko from Krupová in hairpin bends. In winter you cannot do without winter tyres, and chains belong in the car. According to the resort, a regular bus also runs to Srdiečko from Brezno, Podbrezová and Banská Bystrica.

Tále: golf and a small slope

Tále is a holiday area in the Bystrá valley, a little above the village of Bystrá. The Ski Tále resort has 2.77 km of snowmaking pistes, six tows including two for children, and night skiing. In summer there is the Gray Bear Golf Club Tále golf course and a rope park.

From Tále it is a few minutes up the valley to Krupová, and in winter the Horehronie ski bus also runs through Tále, with a stop at Ski Tále. Parking at Ski Tále is free. Tále suits families who want to start their children on a small slope and go up Chopok only later.

Bystrá: a village in the middle of the valley

Bystrá lies below Chopok in the middle of the valley. You have Mýto and Tále within a few minutes, and Krupová a little further. The village has Bystrianska Cave, the Hotel Bystrá water and sauna world and several restaurants. At the TIC Horehronie tourist information centre in Bystrá you can buy the Horehronie Card, which gives you free rides on the ski bus and discounts on ski passes at Tále and Mýto. In winter 2025/26 the Horehronie ski bus had four stops in the village.

Bystrá is a good choice when you do not want to ski on Chopok every day. In the morning you go to Krupová, in the afternoon with the children to Tále or Mýto, and in the evening to wellness. When the weather turns bad, the cave is in the village.

Bosorka Apartments are in Bystrá too: two separate apartments for 2 to 6 people, one with a fireplace and one with a balcony, a ski room in the house and parking at the house. The Hotel Bystrá water and sauna world is right across the road.

Mýto pod Ďumbierom: by the resort with night skiing

Mýto lies by the road that leads from Brezno over the Čertovica pass to Liptov. At the edge of the village, in the direction from Bystrá, is the Mýto Ski & Bike resort with 4.6 km of pistes, a four-seat chairlift and night skiing, which in winter 2025/26 was from Wednesday to Saturday. Below the slope there is a restaurant, an Apres-ski bar and free parking. The village also has a Coop Jednota shop.

From Mýto it is closest to Brezno and to cross-country skiing at Čertovica and Pohanské. Buses run from Brezno railway station to Mýto several times a day. To Krupová it is a little further from Mýto than from Bystrá, along the same road.

How to get to the gondola in the morning

From Bystrá, Tále and Mýto alike, you reach Krupová by the one road up the Bystrá valley. At weekends and on holidays be at the car park early, especially at Srdiečko, which has only 100 spaces. Krupová has 520 spaces. You can cut the €10 parking fee to €7 by scanning the QR code from the parking ticket in the Gopass app.

Without a car the Horehronie ski bus helps. In winter 2025/26 it ran daily from 20 December 2025 to 11 January 2026 and from 14 February to 8 March 2026, and at weekends in between, and with the Horehronie Card it was free. The morning service from the Bystrá, Hotel Bystrá stop left at 8:44 and reached Krupová at 9:07. The last one back left Krupová at 15:45. Who each place is for

• Krupová and Srdiečko - for skiers who go mainly for Chopok and want to be first on the slope in the morning.
• Tále - for families with beginners and, in summer, for golfers.
• Bystrá - for those who want Chopok, the smaller resorts, the cave and wellness all close by, and to switch between them according to the weather.
• Mýto pod Ďumbierom - for night skiers and cross-country skiers who go to Čertovica.

If you want to go from the door straight onto the gondola, stay at Krupová or Srdiečko. If a few minutes by car do not bother you, down in the valley you have more options for days without skis.
